Nicholas Pooran’s whirlwind century in just 40 balls propelled MI New York to a historic win in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 final, as they completed the chase of 184 runs against Seattle Orcas in only 16 overs to lift the coveted title.
This century has outpaced Orcas’ Heinrich Klaasen’s effort by one ball, setting a new record for the fastest century in the tournament. In addition, he secured the top spot in the tournament for the most sixes, smashing 34 sixes in a mere eight matches.
Among the 34 sixes he hit, 13 came during the final match against Seattle Orcas.
Earlier in the match, the Seattle Orcas rode on Quinton de Kock’s magnificent knock of 87 runs from just 52 balls to post a mammoth total of 183 runs on the board, losing nine wickets in the process.
In reply, Nicholas Pooran made the big run chase a cakewalk. Apart from Pooran, Shayan Jahangir, Dewald Brevis, and Tim David chipped in with contributions of 10, 20, and 10 runs, respectively.
