Melbourne Stars have signed Nicholas Pooran of West Indies for the upcoming season of Big Bash League (BBL) but the left-handed batsman will play only six matches for the Melbourne Stars.
Currently, Nicholas Pooran is in New Zealand with West Indies squad for the upcoming T20I series. After the completion of this series, the veteran will fly directly to Australia to feature in the Big Bash League for the first time.
Pooran has not been picked in West Indies’ Test Squad and he is expected to remain with the team after the T20 matches to get some red-ball experience during the Test campaign. The Test series will end on December 15, whereas the new edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) is scheduled to start on December 10, which indirectly means that the West Indies veteran will miss the initial matches for his franchise in the league.
As per reports of Cricket.com.au, the left-handed batsman won’t have to complete a mandatory quarantine period after his arrival in Australia due to the recent creation of a Trans-Tasman travel bubble.
At the same time, the Melbourne-based franchise of BBL has confirmed the availability of Nicholas Pooran for six matches in December and January.
Meanwhile, Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf, who had impressed in the last edition of the BBL will not be available for Melbourne Stars in the upcoming BBL league. He was picked in Pakistan’s extended squad for the New Zealand tour.
Nicholas Pooran was a part of Kings XI Punjab in India Premier League (IPL) 2020. He played a crucial role for his franchise. He finished the league with a strike rate of 165 and had earned praises for his batting skills.
“Nick is an impressive player with some big gears who has been in demand in the IPL, the Caribbean Premier League and Pakistan Super League in addition to his West Indies duties for some time,” said Stars coach, David Hussey.
“I’m looking forward to having his talents on our side this season.”
