
West Indies veteran batsman Chris Gayle pulled out of the inaugural edition of Lanka Premier League (LPL 2020) citing personal reasons. The news was confirmed by the franchise Kandy Tuskers on Wednesday.
“We are sad to announce that Chris Gayle will not be playing for us in this year’s @LPLT20_,” Kandy Tuskers wrote on Twitter.
Chris Gayle was part of Kings XI Punjab in recent concluded India Premier League and he played brilliantly in the tournament. Even though his team could not make it to the playoffs of the tournament, he won all the hearts by his elegant batting skills.
Gayle batted brilliantly in the 13th season of IPL. He scored a total of 288 runs in the UAE this season, with 99 being his highest score. He was expected to play in the first season of the Lanka Premier League this year but has withdrawn from the tournament.
Gayle was expected to pair up with former Indian all-rounders Irfan Pathan and Munaf Patel in Kandy Tuskers.
In Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2020, five franchisee team, named after Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Dambulla and Jaffna will compete in 23 matches.
Colombo will take on Kandy in the opening match of LPL at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota on November 26.
The T20 tournament, which will comprise of 23 matches, will see doubleheaders being played on each day till the semi-finals which will be played on December 13 and 14. The final will be played on December 16. All the matches will be played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Hambantota.
