Andre Russell has responded to Shah Rukh Khan’s tweet, wherein he apologised to the fans after their defeat to Mumbai Indians by 10 runs in the 5th match of the IPL 2021 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday.
Kolkata Knight Riders lost a match that was in their hands for the most part of it. Eoin Morgan’s men imploded as they managed just one boundary in the last 5 overs in chase of 153. KKR were restricted to 142 for 7 in their quota of 20 overs as they slipped to their 11th defeat to Mumbai Indians in their last 12 meetings.
The shocking defeat left Shah Rukh Khan disappointed as the Bollywood actor took to Twitter to apologies to the fans.
“Disappointing performance. to say the least @KKRiders apologies to all the fans!” Shah Rukh wrote on Twitter.
Rahul Chahar picked up 4 wickets for 27 runs, Krunal Pandya gave away just 13 runs for 1 wicket and Trent Boult picked up 2 wickets in the final over as Mumbai Indians came up with high-quality death bowling. KKR went from 104 for 3 to 142 for 7 in a span of 7 overs even as their fans watched on with a bit of shock.
“Yeah, I support that Tweet [from SRK] but at the end of the day the game of cricket… you are not sure until it’s over. I think we are still confident, we still played some good cricket and I am proud of the boys. You know, we are definitely disappointed but it’s not the end of the world, it’s only the second game and we are going to learn from it,” Russell said in the post-match press conference.
Andre Russell, in the post match conference suggested that it wasn’t easy for the new batsmen to get off the blocks on the sticky Chennai wicket. He remarked that from now on, the team will try to make sure that batsmen set on the crease finish the game as well.
“I just think it’s a game of cricket. I have played hundreds of T20 games and I have seen games where teams cruise in on the driver’s seat and then suddenly lose a few wickets, new batters come in and struggle to get away and that’s what happened tonight.
So, we definitely have to learn from this as I have said before. We will look to make sure that who’s in, stays in and once we learn from all these mistakes that happened tonight we will definitely do better because we have a good team. I have trust and confidence in the boys,” concluded Andre Russell.
The 10-runs defeat also overshadowed an astonishing bowling effort from KKR which included a five-wicket-haul by Andre Russell and at least one wicket for every frontline bowler. They will play their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 18.
