In the match 33 of Indian Premier League (IPL 2020), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets at Dubai International cricket stadium on Saturday, thanks to brilliant innings of 55 runs by AB de Villiers.
Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, the Royals posted 178 runs on the scoreboard in the allotted 20 overs.
With the great partnership of Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal in the second innings, RCB were easily moving towards the target but losing both wickets on two balls put the team in trouble. Finally, AB de Villiers, with his best batting, turned the match and brought it to his side. He hit a strong six off the first three balls of the 19th over of Jaydev Unadkat and then sealed the victory with a six off Jofra Archer in the last over.
With this loss, Rajasthan Royals remain at the seventh spot with 6 points and Virat led side reached at the third spot in the IPL 2020 points table with 12 points.
Sure is a Hard Pill to Swallow: Steve Smith
The decision of Steve Smith to bowl Jaydev Unadkat failed as de Villiers smacked him all over the ground. Smith said that the loss was a hard pill to swallow and more so as they came close to win a match twice in a row but failed.
“Sure is a hard pill to swallow. Just got AB’d there. That’s two in a row we were in the box seat to win but didn’t. Disappointing. I think it was a good score on a slow wicket. I thought we built the pressure pretty well and it took a pretty special inning to take RCB home,” losing captain Smith said at the post-match interview.
“We wanted to use Jaydev to the bigger boundary, he bowls a lot of slower stuff into the wicket. Obviously boundary not big enough for AB. [On his batting] Nice to spend a bit of time in the middle and get a bit of rhythm,” he added.
