Kolkata Knight Riders’ team made some changes against Delhi Capitals in the 42nd match of IPL 2020. KKR sent Nitish Rana along with Shubman Gill as the opening pair. Gill was out early, but Nitish Rana remained till the end and scored a half-century during the match. After hitting a half-century, he showed a jersey on the field with his father-in-law’s name written on it.
In fact, as soon as Nitish Rana completed his half-century against Delhi with the help of 7 fours and a six in 35 balls, a player brought a jersey from the dugout. Usually, the batsman picks up his bat after scoring a half-century, but Nitish Rana showed the jersey to everyone with name “Surinder” written on it. This person is none other than his father-in-law Surinder Marwah, who died of cancer on Friday.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ official Twitter handle shared his picture holding the jersey and wrote, “A heart-warming tribute from Nitish Rana to his father-in-law, who passed away yesterday, Surinder Marwah.”
The official handle of IPL also shared the picture and wrote, “Sent in to open the innings, NitishRana responds with a fine 5️0️ and dedicates it to his father in law, who passed away yesterday.”
As long as the match is concerned, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Delhi Capitals by 59 runs in the 42nd match of IPL. Batting first after losing the toss, KKR scored 194 runs losing six wickets in 20 overs. Nitish Rana scored 81 runs in 53 balls with a strike rate of 152.83 and Sunil Narine contributed 64 off 32 balls for their side. In reply, Delhi could only manage 135 runs after losing nine wickets and lost the match. KKR spinner Varun Chakraborty bowled deadly and took five wickets for 20 runs in four overs.
