India vs Afghanistan 1st T20I to Go Ahead as Scheduled in Delhi
India vs Afghanistan 1st T20I will be played in Delhi on September 13 as DDCA confirms security and traffic arrangements.
The first T20I between India and Afghanistan will be played as scheduled on September 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has confirmed.
The match had faced uncertainty because it falls on the final day of the BRICS Summit in Delhi, which runs from September 11 to 13.
With several VVIP movements expected across the capital, Delhi Police had earlier asked the DDCA to consider moving the match due to security concerns.
The Arun Jaitley Stadium is around 5 km from Bharat Mandapam, where the BRICS Summit is being held. This made traffic and security arrangements a major concern for authorities.
The issue was resolved after a meeting between DDCA officials and Delhi Traffic Police. The police assured the cricket body that all necessary security and traffic support would be provided.
The DDCA then confirmed that there would be no change to the match schedule. “India–Afghanistan 1st T20I on 13 September at Arun Jaitley Stadium will go ahead as scheduled,” the DDCA said.
The three-match T20I series will be played entirely at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The matches are scheduled for September 13, 15 and 17, with each game starting at 7 PM IST.
The confirmation comes as a relief for fans and players, with the opening game now set to take place without any change to the original schedule.
