IND vs AUS: Virat Kohli Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s Fastest 12,000 ODI Runs’ Record

Virat Kohli becomes the fastest batsman to complete 12,000 ODI runs. He has broken the Sachin Tendulkar's record for the fastest 12,000 runs in the 50-over format of the game.

India might have lost the ODI series against Australia but Indian skipper Virat Kohli is in full mood to of breaking records, like he always does. While in the second ODI, he became the fastest batsman to score 22,000 international runs, now in the third and final ODI he touched another milestone. He becomes the fastest batsman to complete 12,000 ODI runs.

Virat Kohli has broken the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the fastest 12,000 runs in the 50-over format of the game. While Tendulkar took 309 games to achieve this milestone, the current Indian skipper took only 251 games to reach the landmark.

Kohli needed 23 runs to get to the landmark and he had no trouble reaching the milestone in his 251st ODI. Kohli has 43 hundred and 59 fifties and averages close to 60 in a format that he has dominated over the years. After seeing his records, one may have no doubt in calling him ‘records’ machine’.

Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting comes third in the list as he had taken 314 innings (323 matches) to score 12,000 runs in ODIs. He is followed by Kumar Sangakkara (336 innings, 359 matches), Sanath Jayasuriya (379 innings, 390 matches) and Mahela Jayawardene (399 innings, 426 matches).

Virat Kohli’s performance in the ongoing ODI against Australia is decent as in the first ODI, he couldn’t do much for his side and got dismissed after scoring just 21 runs. In the second ODI, he played a brilliantly and smashed 89 runs but failed to chase the mammoth score of 389 runs.

Kohli has appeared in 82 ODIs and 86 Tests in which he has scored 7,240 and 2,794 runs respectively. Recently, he became the ninth Indian cricketer to make 250 ODI appearances. He has scored more than 221,000 international runs across formats till now.
