[Watch] Why Suryakumar Let UAE Batter Stay On Crease Despite Being Out in Asia Cup Match?

Suryakumar Yadav withdrew an appeal against UAE’s Junaid Siddique despite him being out, showing rare sportsmanship.

A rare moment of sportsmanship was seen during India’s Asia Cup 2025 clash against the United Arab Emirates at the Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday.

It happened in the 13th over when UAE’s Junaid Siddique attempted a wild swing at Shivam Dube’s short ball. He missed, and wicketkeeper Sanju Samson reacted quickly with a direct throw to the stumps. The third umpire checked and replays clearly showed Junaid short of his crease. The big screen flashed “OUT”.

But the drama did not end there. Junaid pointed out that Dube’s towel had slipped while he was running in, which distracted him. After a brief chat, India captain Suryakumar Yadav decided to withdraw the appeal. The gesture didn’t change the course of the game, as UAE were bowled out soon after for just 57 runs.

On the bowling front, Kuldeep Yadav was the star. Returning from a long stretch on the bench during India’s Test tour of England, the left-arm spinner made an immediate impact. He ripped through UAE’s middle and lower order with figures of 4 for 7 in just 2.1 overs.

Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah gave India the early breakthrough. He cleaned up UAE’s best batter on the day, Alishan Sharafu, with a perfect yorker.

The Kerala-born opener scored 22 off 17 balls with three fours and a six before Bumrah ended his stay. After that, the UAE innings fell apart, with Shivam Dube and Varun Chakaravarthy also among the wickets.

India eventually strolled to a 9-wicket win with 93 balls remaining, their biggest-ever margin in T20 internationals.
