[Watch] R Ashwin Loses His Cool on Female Umpire in TNPL, Throws Bat and Gloves in Frustration
Ashwin vents frustration after LBW in TNPL 2025; Dindigul collapse as Tiruppur win by 9 wickets; poor form continues
Veteran cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin lost his temper during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 match between Dindigul Dragons and IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans on Sunday. The 38-year-old, who is leading Dindigul this season, got out early and showed visible frustration on the field.
Ashwin came out to open the innings after losing the toss to Tiruppur captain R Sai Kishore. However, the plan didn’t work, as he was dismissed for just 18 runs in the fifth over by his opposite number.
The delivery hit Ashwin on the pads, and the umpire instantly raised her finger, but Ashwin felt the ball was pitching outside leg stump.
He argued with the female umpire for a few seconds before walking back to the pavilion. On his way back, Ashwin smashed his pads with the bat in frustration, clearly upset with the decision.
Dindigul Collapse After Ashwin’s Dismissal
After Ashwin’s early exit, Dindigul Dragons failed to recover. The team was bowled out for just 93 runs in 16.2 overs. Only three batters managed to reach double digits, with Shivam top-scoring with 30 runs.
Tiruppur’s bowlers dominated the innings, with Esakkimuthu taking 4 wickets and Sai Kishore grabbing 2.
In reply, Tiruppur chased down the target comfortably. Wicketkeeper-batter Tushar Raheja played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 65 runs, helping his team win by 9 wickets with 49 balls remaining.
Ashwin’s Struggles Continue After IPL 2025
Ashwin’s poor run with the bat and ball has continued from the IPL to TNPL. In IPL 2025, he returned to Chennai Super Kings—the franchise where he started his journey in 2009 but had a disappointing season. He picked up only 7 wickets in 9 matches and scored just 33 runs.
He was also dropped from the playing XI in some matches. With such performances, CSK might look to release him ahead of next year’s mega auction.
Just a few months ago, in December, Ashwin had shocked fans by announcing his retirement from international cricket mid-series against Australia. He retired with 537 Test wickets in 106 matches, making him India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Tests, only behind Anil Kumble (619 wickets).
