Narayan Jagadeesan Scores 277 to Break Multiple World Records in List-A Cricket
Narayan Jagadeesan's colossal knock saw him score 277 off 141 balls, which included 25 boundaries, and 15 sixes.
Tamil Nadu batter Narayan Jagadeesan scripted a world record on Monday (November 21) as he became the first-ever batter in history to score five consecutive centuries in the 50-Overs format.
Jagadeesan achieved a huge milestone during Tamil Nadu’s match against Arunachal Pradesh in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s premier 50-over domestic tournament.
The 27-year-old also went past Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara, who scored four centuries in four matches in the 2014-15 season in the 50-over format.
The wicketkeeper-batter also became the highest individual scorer in List A innings after he clobbered 277 runs off 141 balls to help his side post a mammoth total of 506 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.
For the first time in the history of List A cricket, the 500-run mark has been breached by the team. Apart from a century knock against Arunachal, Jagadeesan had scored 128(123) against Haryana, 114* against Andhra Pradesh, 107 against Chhattisgarh, and 168 against Goa.
The double-century knock of Jagadeesan helped him breach a flurry of records. He now has the most number of consecutive centuries in a single season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, surpassing the likes of Virat Kohli, Prithvi Shaw, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Devdutt Padikkal who have scored four centuries each in a single season.
Narayan Jagadeesan Shatters Rohit Sharma’s Record of Highest Score
Narayan Jagadeesan also surpassed the Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s record of 268 runs (scored in an ODI) which was the highest individual total by an Indian in the 50-Overs format.
The Indian batter also broke a 22-year-old record held by Alistair Brown of England who had scored 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan in 2002 to set the then record for the highest individual score in List A cricket.
