Time Away from Cricket Primary Factor in India’s Defeat Against England Women, Says Harmanpreet Kaur
India Women beat England Women by 38 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.
India Women team captain Harmanpreet Kaur points to the extended break from cricket as the factor behind India’s 38-run loss to England in the first T20I at Wankhede Stadium on December 7.
Opting to bowl first proved costly for India as England’s women launched a formidable attack, putting up 197 runs on the board. In reply, Team India fell short, managing only 159 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Here’s what Harmanpreet Kaur said in the post-match conference:
“Playing after a long time, I was expecting some good performance from the players. But it happens if you are away from international cricket for some time.”
“We just needed to back ourselves while chasing. We were looking forward to a good start. But after losing a couple of wickets, we got a partnership but the last ten overs didn’t go our way.”
Speaking on the poor bowling performance from the Indian bowlers, Harmanpreet added:
“We needed to bowl according to the plans. The bowlers will learn from it and we will improve before the ICC World Cup. I know it’s a tough game but I know the bowlers will learn from it.”
The second T20I match between India Women and England Women will be played on December 9 at the same venue in Mumbai.
