Team India To Name A New Vice-Captain Against South Africa For ODI Series
Shikhar Dhawan to lead team India in the three-match ODI series against South Africa.
Team India is all set to lock horns with South Africa in the three-match T20I series as well as the ODI series. However, the T20 World Cup 2022-bound players will not be available for the 50-Over matches.
If reports are to be believed, India’s senior batter Shikhar Dhawan is expected to lead the Men in Blue in the three-ODI series against South Africa with the wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson likely to be named his deputy.
“Samson could be named the vice-captain of the Indian team for the three-match ODI series as most of the senior players are likely to be rested for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Shikhar Dhawan is likely to lead the team,” ANI reported quoting a BCCI source.
The swashbuckling opening batter from Kerala has represented India in seven ODIs so far, where he accumulated 176 runs at an average of 44 and a strike rate of 101.15.
The Rajasthan Royals captain is currently leading India A side at home against New Zealand A. The BCCI source also informed that Rajat Patidar, who had an impressive outing in the IPL 2022, is likely to make his ODI debut against South Africa.
The first T20I of the three-match series will be played in Thiruvananthapuram on September 28 before the action moves to Guwahati for the second T20I. The third and final T20I of the series has been scheduled to be played at Indore on October 4.
As for ODIs, the first match of the series will be played in Lucknow on October 6. The second ODI will be played on October 9 at Ranchi, followed by the last ODI at Delhi on October 11.
