Team India rode on KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav’s batting heroics and Mohammed Shami’s final over brilliance to trounce Australia by six runs in the first warm-up match ahead of the T20 World Cup in Brisbane on Monday, October 17.
Putting to bat first, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav mustered belligerent half-centuries to help India post a stiff total of 186 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Kane Richardson starred with the ball, picking up 4/30, along with Mitchell Starc who took 1/20 in his 3 overs.
In reply, Australia got off to a flying start with openers Mitchell Marsh and Aaron Finch putting a 64-run partnership off just 35 wickets. Steve Smith once again failed to get runs under his belt, scoring just 11 runs off 12 deliveries.
Glenn Maxwell also played a breezy cameo of 16-ball 23 before the hosts fell like the pack to cards to skittle out for 180 runs in 20 overs. For India, Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers, having scalped three wickets in his one-over spell. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar also bagged two wickets.
