The franchise confirmed the decision through an official press release, thanking all three coaches for their service and contributions. Their exits come as Mumbai Indians look to rebuild after several seasons without an IPL title.

Mumbai Indians said, “Mumbai Indians today announced that Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey and Carl Hopkinson will be moving on from their respective roles in the men’s team coaching setup, thanking each of them for their commitment, contribution and service to the franchise.”

A Major Change in Mumbai’s Coaching Setup

Malinga served as Mumbai Indians’ bowling coach from 2024 to 2026. Before taking up the role, the former Sri Lankan fast bowler also worked as the team’s mentor during IPL 2018. He remains one of the most successful players in the franchise’s history.

Mhambrey had two stints as Mumbai Indians’ bowling coach, first from 2011 to 2017 and then from 2024 to 2026. During his first stint, the franchise won its first three IPL titles, in 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Hopkinson joined Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2025 as their fielding coach. However, his two-year stint has ended without the franchise winning a title.

The latest exits follow another major change in the coaching setup, with Kieron Pollard replacing Mahela Jayawardene as head coach. These changes point towards a fresh approach as Mumbai Indians prepare for the next IPL season.

Despite having several star players, Mumbai Indians have struggled to win the title in recent seasons. The franchise will now look to build a stronger setup ahead of IPL 2027.

Hardik Pandya’s Future Remains Uncertain

Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Mumbai Indians could trade their captain, Hardik Pandya, ahead of the IPL 2027 season. According to media reports, the franchise is in talks with multiple teams before the November 15 trade deadline.

However, there has been no official confirmation from Mumbai Indians regarding Pandya’s possible departure. The all-rounder returned to the franchise from Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2024 and was appointed captain.

If Pandya leaves, Mumbai Indians will also face a major question over their captaincy for the upcoming season. For now, his future remains uncertain as the franchise continues to make changes ahead of the mini-auction.
