India had a strong start to the day, with Jasprit Bumrah dismissing Ben Stokes, Joe Root and Chris Woakes in a fiery spell.

However, the momentum slowed down after the ball appeared to go out of shape. With the Duke’s ball losing its shine and impact early, Gill walked up to the umpires, demanding a change.

The officials agreed to change the ball, but India were given a slightly older replacement, which didn’t help much either.

A visibly unhappy Gill continued arguing with the umpires, making animated gestures and expressing clear dissatisfaction.

Why ICC Might Penalise Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill’s actions may have crossed a line. According to ICC’s Code of Conduct, his conduct could fall under Level 1 offence – specifically Article 2.8 – which deals with showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.

The rule clearly states that prolonged discussions or arguing with umpires about their decisions is not permitted. If charged, Gill may receive a warning, a fine, or even demerit points depending on the severity of the breach.
