‘Retired’ Virat Kohli Hosts Team India at His London Mansion Ahead of England Test Series

Virat Kohli hosted a dinner at his London home for selected Indian players ahead of the Test series against England.

With just three days to go before India begin their much-awaited Test series against England at Headingley, Leeds, former captain Virat Kohli invited a few Indian cricketers to his house in London for a dinner get-together.

Kohli, who recently announced his retirement from Test cricket, is currently spending time in England with his family following the end of a successful IPL 2025 season.

As reported by RevSportz, the 36-year-old spent a few hours chatting with selected players of the current Indian squad. The meeting was informal but likely meaningful, especially for a team that is going through a major transition phase following the Test retirements of both Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Kohli Still Playing a Role, Off the Field

Even though Kohli has hung up his Test boots, his presence continues to inspire the dressing room. With a high-pressure series coming up, this kind of motivation from someone of Kohli’s stature could lift the confidence of the squad. Whether or not he’ll be at Headingley to cheer the team from the stands remains to be seen.

Kohli’s sudden decision to retire from Test cricket earlier this year shocked many fans and experts, considering his high fitness levels and strong performances. Since then, there have been calls for him to reverse his decision and return to red-ball cricket. But so far, he has remained silent on the matter.

Big Test for Shubman Gill

The spotlight now shifts to India’s new Test captain Shubman Gill, who will lead the team in the absence of senior pros like Rohit and Kohli. While he has the experience of playing in English conditions, this will be his biggest test as a leader.

There’s also uncertainty over his batting position, whether he’ll open or take over Kohli’s No. 4 spot. India’s new-look side has big shoes to fill, and Gill’s leadership and form with the bat will be crucial if they are to challenge England in their home conditions.
