South African batting maverick Quinton de Kock maintained his exceptional form in the 2023 ODI World Cup by notching up his third century in a group stage match against Bangladesh at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday.
De Kock, who announced his retirement plans from the 50-over format post-tournament, has been delivering his best for the Proteas as an opener. He reached his century in just 101 deliveries, contributing to South Africa’s breathtaking start against Bangladesh.
Quinton de Kock’s stellar performance made him only the 7th batter in World Cup history to notch up three centuries in a single edition, a feat not previously accomplished in this edition being held in India. De Kock now shares this exclusive club with cricket luminaries like Rohit Sharma, Kumar Sangakkara, and Sourav Ganguly.
In addition, Quinton de Kock has etched his name in history as the very first South African cricketer to record three centuries in a single edition of the World Cup. No South African batter had achieved this remarkable milestone before in any prior World Cup edition.
Quinton de Kock remained relentless in his innings, accumulating 174 runs from 140 deliveries, comprising 15 boundaries and seven sixes, until he fell to a delivery from Hasan Mahmud on the first delivery of the 46th over.
South Africa rode on de Kock’s remarkable century and a scintillating 90 off 49 balls by Heinrich Klaasen to set a massive target of 382 runs on the board, losing five wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.
