PAK vs ENG: Shahid Afridi Lambastes Ramiz Raja For His Comments on Rawalpindi Pitch
Shahid Afridi slammed Ramiz Raja for his remarks on the Rawalpindi pitch.
Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi lambasted Pakistan cricket board chairman Ramiz Raja for his remarks on the Rawalpindi pitch for the first Test between England and Pakistan.
The pitch at Rawalpindi has become the talk of the town ever since England scored 506 runs on the Day of the ongoing Test. There has been absolutely no help for the bowlers.
On being asked about the Rawalpindi pitch, Ramiz Raja said Pakistan is still years away from making a good Test cricket pitch for five days.
Shahid Afridi, while criticising Ramiz Raja for his comments on the Rawalpindi pitch stated that he was shocked after hearing the PCB chairman’s remarks.
“The way Ramiz was speaking, I mean I was shocked to listen to him saying that we cannot make tracks like these. International matches have been going on in Pakistan for such a long time but then we say stuff like these. Ramiz said that he wanted a turning track. I feel in this weather it would have been something big,” Afridi told Samaa TV.
Afridi further asked the reason behind changing the pitch in Rawalpindi, which has always been helpful to the fast bowlers.
“Rawalpindi’s track has always been for the fast bowlers with seam and bounce. Why did they even change it? We now fear losing this Test and we want to win but don’t know the technique,” he added.
Never Seen Such A Flat Track: Shahid Afridi
Afridi also conceded that he has never seen a pitch like the one at Rawalpindi, which is currently in use for the Test match between England and Pakistan.
“If we are talking about the Rawalpindi pitch, I have never seen a track like this. I have seen a lot of domestic games as well there, but I have never seen a pitch like this which is so flat.”
“It reminded me of Faisalabad or Sialkot track. The four big venues – Multan, Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi – I have seen fast bowlers enjoy those tracks because of the bounce. In fact, there was a time when we used to see a lot many fast bowlers coming from Rawalpindi,”
