“Non-Brown Cricketers Always Get Away”: Robin Uthappa Slams Michael Clarke Over Slapgate Video
Robin Uthappa slammed Michael Clarke for sharing the old IPL 2008 slapgate video of Harbhajan Singh and Sreesanth, calling it disrespectful and accusing him of chasing views.
Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa has taken aim at ex-Australia captain Michael Clarke after a fresh video of the infamous 2008 IPL “slapgate” incident between Harbhajan Singh and S Sreesanth surfaced.
The clip was shown by Lalit Modi on Clarke’s podcast, reigniting a controversy that had long been settled.
Back then, Harbhajan, representing Mumbai Indians, slapped Sreesanth after a game against Kings XI Punjab.
The spinner was banned for 11 matches, later expressed regret, and even reconciled with the pacer. Over the years, both have publicly moved on from the episode.
But Uthappa was furious at Clarke for bringing it back nearly two decades later. Speaking on the Kim-Appa show with Jarrod Kimber, he questioned the motive behind airing the video.
“Slapgate happened in the IPL. What the f*** man? If someone exposed Australian cricket’s controversies, would that be okay? Everyone makes mistakes. Do you have the right to make two people relive this again 20 years later for views?” Uthappa said.
The former batter accused Clarke and Modi of double standards and lacking empathy, adding that Indian cricketers are repeatedly embarrassed while others escape scrutiny.
“You should have empathy for others. Non-brown skinned people get away with controversies. You can’t treat people like crap for views,” Uthappa added.
