Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Nitish Rana has revealed a special message Gautam Gambhir sent him on November 22, 2023, when Gambhir was appointed as the mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders. Rana had sent Gambhir a congratulatory message and welcomed him warmly.
The special aspect of Gambhir’s message was his expression of gratitude towards Rana. Gambhir mentioned that there is no better feeling than standing on the podium with the trophy and expressed his determination to achieve that in the final of the tournament.
Kolkata Knight Riders did just that on May 26, as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets to lift the trophy. Gambhir played a significant role in their success. He made the strategic decision to have Sunil Narine open the batting for KKR, which proved to be a masterstroke.
Additionally, Gambhir kept faith in Mitchell Starc despite his struggles in the first half of the tournament. Starc eventually came through and played a crucial role in both the qualifier and the final for KKR.
