Mumbai Indians Wanted To Release Jasprit Bumrah Over Poor Form: Parthiv Patel
Mumbai Indians had signed Jasprit Bumrah in 2013.
The former Indian wicket-keeper, Parthiv Patel, reveals that there was a time in Mumbai Indians when the five-time champions were about to kick Jasprit Bumrah out of the team, but it was then captain Rohit Sharma who backed the speedster and kept faith in him.
Parthiv stated that back in 2015 when Bumrah was just getting started with Mumbai Indians, the team wasn’t too pleased with his performance and considered axing him. But Rohit Sharma put his foot down and convinced them otherwise.
Here’s what Parthiv Patel told JioCinema:
“In IPL 2015, When Bumrah was new to MI & his performance was such that the team wanted to leave him but Rohit Sharma believed in his potential & decided to keep him – from next IPL season we saw the result.”
Ever since Jasprit Bumrah donned the Mumbai Indians jersey in 2013, he’s been a key player, contributing significantly to the team’s success and all five IPL titles they have clinched.
Bumrah currently has 148 wickets to his name and is the second-highest wicket-taker for the five-time champions. The Sri Lankan fast bowling legend Lasith Malinga is still the highest wicket-taker for MI with 195 wickets to his credit.
