Joe Root Pulls Out of IPL 2024 for Undisclosed Reasons

Joe Root played only three matches in IPL 2023 season.

England cricketer Joe Root has withdrawn from IPL 2024, with the reason undisclosed. The announcement came from the Rajasthan Royals via their official Twitter on November 25, a day before the retention deadline.

Having been bought by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 1 crore in IPL 2023, Joe Root’s stint comprised only three matches, during which he scored a modest 10 runs in a single innings where he batted.

Here’s what Kumar Sangakkara, Rajasthan Royals’ Director of Cricket, said on the development:

“During our retention conversations, Joe informed us of his decision to not take part in IPL 2024. Even in a short span of time, Joe was able to create such a positive impact on the franchise and the players around him. His energy around the group and the experience he brought to the Royals will be missed. We respect his decision totally and wish him success in everything he does.”

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals engaged in just one trade during the trading window, securing the services of pacer Avesh Khan through a player-to-player exchange with Lucknow Super Giants, where they traded batter Devdutt Padikkal.
