Javed Miandad Slams PCB For Resuming PSL 2021
Javed Miandad lashed at the Pakistan Cricket Board's idea to shift and resume the Pakistan Super League event in the UAE at a time when COVID is wreaking havoc.
Former Pakistan captain and batting great, Javed Miandad has slammed his country’s cricket board for trying to figure out how and when to restart its remaining part of the premier domestic T20 tournament amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Recently it was reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was in talks with the Emirates Cricket Board to seek permission from the UAE government to hold the remaining 20 matches of the PSL in the UAE. However, the development didn’t go well with the Miandad as he don’t want to risk lives of people to organize the T20 tournament amid coronavirus.
However, PCB’s efforts suffered a blow on Monday with UAE’s recent ban on travellers from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh due to the Covid-19 crisis. The travel ban will come into effect from Wednesday (May 12).
As reported by PTI, Javed Miandad lashed out at the Pakistan Cricket Board’s idea to shift the Pakistan Super League event in the UAE. Miandad said everybody should be looking at saving lives right now rather than think about playing cricket amid the ongoing crisis.
“This is not the time to play cricket, it is the time to save lives. In these times of crisis, we should be more focused on saving lives rather than playing cricket. The whole world has been affected by the coronavirus. India, where the World Cup was supposed to take place, is also severely affected by the epidemic,” Miandad told to a cricket website.
“My personal view is that this is not the right time to be playing cricket. PCB’s attempts of holding the remaining matches of the PSL season six in the UAE is not the right move. They are risking the lives of several individuals for their own financial gains. If it was in my hands, I would not take the big risk of organising the remaining PSL matches. If they hold this event and face problems, then who will be responsible,” he added.
PSL 2021 six was postponed after a string of COVID-19 cases were reported in March this year. The tournament will now resume in June with the final scheduled for June 20.
