IPL 2024: Top 3 Records That Could Be Broken in Today’s RR vs KKR Match
Mitchell Starc just 4 wickets away to reach the milestone of 50 IPL wickets.
The 70th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will be played between Rajasthan Royals and the table-toppers, Kolkata Knight Riders. The match is scheduled for 19th May at 7:30 pm.
This match will be played at Barsapara Stadium. It is the last match of the league stage in this tournament.
Kolkata Knight Riders has the power to decide who they want to face in Qualifier 1. It can be Rajasthan Royals again if they lose, or Sunrisers Hyderabad if they win and SRH wins their last game.
Both KKR and RR got off to great starts in IPL 2024, but RR failed to keep the momentum unlike KKR, resulting in losing four consecutive games. KKR, on the other hand, has sealed their 1st spot. Both KKR and RR have qualified for the playoffs.
For KKR, everything has clicked so far, from Sunil Narine’s opening experiment to going big in the auctions for Mitch Starc. Their mentor, Gautam Gambhir, who had a homecoming, has clearly made an impact in the camp.
KKR has been exceptional this season, winning 9 games comprehensively, with each department excelling in the game. Meanwhile, RR lost to PBKS in their last game.
Rajasthan Royals have been struggling in their last games, with the majority of their batting lineup out of form, and with Buttler flying back for national duties, the problem seems to be piling up.
Both Jos Buttler and Phil Salt have gone back to England for their national duties.
Rajasthan Royals will be led by Sanju Samson while Kolkata Knight Riders will be led by Shreyas Iyer. Both captains are in good form.
Here are some records that could be broken in the match:
1. Ashwin Eyes 50 IPL Catches
Ravichandran Ashwin, who is a master bowler in the league, has been criticized time and again for his fielding abilities. Ravichandran Ashwin (47) needs another three catches to reach 50 catches in the IPL.
2. Starc To Target 50 IPL Wickets
Mitchell Starc has finally delivered, justifying his auction price, and KKR would hope he continues his form. He is 4 wickets shy of reaching 50 wickets in the IPL.
3. Gurbaz Nearing 4000 T20 Runs
Rahmanullah Gurbaz is expected to play in Phil Salt’s absence. He is a like-for-like replacement with ample T20 experience. He needs 15 more runs to reach 4000 runs in T20 cricket.
The last match of the season could very well be a buildup to the final match, as the majority of the time, the teams who have finished 1 and 2 have played in the final. However, for that, RR has to win this game and finish at Number 2. The last league game isn’t a dead rubber, which tells the beauty of the IPL.
