IPL 2024: Sunil Gavaskar Slams Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag for Choking Under Pressure Against SRH
Both Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag failed against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Rajasthan Royals’ journey in the IPL 2024 came to an end after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) handed them a 36-run defeat in the second qualifier on Friday at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Chasing 176 runs to win, Rajasthan Royals innings ended in disappointment as they could only muster 139 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs, falling short of the target.
Captain Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag emerged as key pillars for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024, with both amassing over 500 runs. However, when it mattered the most, both of them failed with the bat.
While Sanju Samson scored 10 runs from 11 deliveries, Riyan Parag managed to score 6 runs from 10 deliveries.
Sunil Gavaskar didn’t mince words as he lambasted both players, questioning the significance of their runs if they crumbled under pressure. Here’s what Gavaskar said on Star Sports:
“What is the use of scoring 500 runs? They got out while playing fancy shots. If you can’t win a game for your franchise, it doesn’t matter. Samson played a reckless stroke.”
“This is the problem with him and that’s why he hasn’t been able to cement his place in the Indian team. He doesn’t have a proper shot selection. I hope he rectifies it and performs well for the Indian team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.”
Notably, Sanju Samson has been picked in India’s 15-member squad for T20 World Cup 2024.
