IPL 2021: New Addition To CSK Camp Ahead of The Tournament

IPL 2021: CSK are doing all they can to prepare themselves for the upcoming IPL season. To give their players international exposure during the nets, CSK have roped in a South African fast bowler.

MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be the franchise, on whom all the eyes will be on, given that they had one of the worst seasons in IPL 2020, as they failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in a decade they were part of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The players had started gathering in the city earlier in the month and kicked off the preparations soon after completing the mandatory isolation period. Tamil Nadu’s N. Jagadeesan, R. Sai Kishore and C. Hari Nishaanth, who was picked up during last month’s auction, have also been training with the star players.

The social media team of the franchise has also been actively putting out photos and videos of the team’s practise sessions.

In one of the recently shared photos, it was revealed that CSK had roped in South Africa international Hardus Viljoen as one of their net bowlers. Coincidentally, Hardus Viljoen also happens to be the brother-in-law of CSK opener Faf du Plessis.

Viljoen had registered himself for IPL 2021 auction at a base price of INR 50 lakh but went unsold. Notably, this is not his first stint with an IPL franchise. He has earlier played with Punjab Kings franchise.

Chennai had earlier roped in two Sri Lankan bowlers Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana, who were added to the side as reserve players.

CSK Hopin For An Improved Season This Year

After a poor season in IPL 2020, where for the first time ever Chennai Super Kings did not qualify for the play-offs, the franchise will hope for an improved season when IPL 2021 begins next month.

Chennai will begin their campaign against Delhi Capitals on April 10 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The tournament will be played across six cities — Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
