Punjab Kings off-spinner Harpreet Brar recently opened up on how he felt after taking the wickets of three batting legends AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell in the span of 24 balls.

Notably, Harpreet Brar was one of the show-stealers for Punjab Kings in the first phase of the Indian Premier League 2021. The off-spinner who was playing just his fourth match for Punjab Kings, went on to dismiss Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell to return with the magnificent figures of 3/19.

Not just this, in the same match, the left-handed batsman went on to smash unbeaten 25 off just 17 deliveries to help his side notch an easy win. Later, the 25-year was adjudged ‘Man of the Match’ for his outstanding performance.

Recently, in a conversation with India Today, Brar opened up on how he felt after scalping the prized wickets of Virat Kohli, Ab de Villiers, and Glenn Maxwell.

“Getting Virat Kohli as my first wicket was just amazing. I never dreamt about it, and he even hit me for a six and a four on the first two balls of my spell. In the next ball, I removed Glenn Maxwell and took Ab de Villiers’ wicket as well. It just keeps getting better,” Harpreet Brar told India Today.

The 25-year old further stated how clueless he was on the field regarding the wickets and only after entering the dressing room did he realize what he had done for the team.

“On the ground, I didn’t feel anything, everyone congratulated me, and we won the match. However, I realized the importance once I got back into the team dressing room,” recalled Brar.

Anil Kumble Has Soft Corner For Spinners: Harpreet Brar

The all-rounder further opined how head coach Anil Kumble’s advice helped him in picking the three batting legends. Brar revealed that Kumble has a soft corner for the spinners and he told him to stick to the basics to reap the fruits on the field.

“It was my fourth match for the Punjab Kings. I had only played in three games before that in two seasons and had failed to get any wicket. So, there was a bit of nervousness, but gentle advice from Anil Kumble boosted my confidence.”

“Anil Kumble has a soft corner for the spinner. Before the match, we (spinners) were practicing in the nets. He came to me and said, keep it simple, Brar, stick to your basics.”

The Punjab Kings off-spinner also revealed how Kumble asked him to pitch the ball at the right spot to scalp wickets.

“He told me ‘every bowler has a spot, where he wants to pitch every ball, be it a finger spinner wrist-spinner or for that matter a fast bowler. So just keep landing your balls in that area and you will eventually get the wickets,” said Brar.
