India’s Star Pacer Tests Positive For Covid-19; Ruled Out Of T20I Series Against
India's star fast bowler has been ruled out of the upcoming India vs Australia series after testing positive for Covid-19.
In what comes as a major blow for team India ahead, star pacer Mohammed Shami has been tested positive for Covid-19 and ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Australia, starting from September 20 at Mohali.
If reports are to be believed, the Indian pacer will miss the entire home series against Australia since there isn’t enough time for him to recover and join the squad as the three-match T20I series ends on September 25.
However, the Uttar Pradesh pacer is expected to return for the T20I series against South Africa starting September 28. He is currently in a mandatory seven days isolation at his home and can join the squad only after testing negative in two Covid-19 tests.
Notably, Shami failed to make the cut to the 15-man squad but he will travel to Australia as a standby. After last year’s T20 World Cup, Shami was kept out of India’s T20I scheme, however, following team India’s dismal show in Asia Cup 2022, he has been recalled to the team for South Africa and Australia T20I series.
Shami has represented India in only 17 T20Is after making his international debut in 2013. In IPL 2022, the 32-year-old claimed 20 wickets in 16 matches and played a pivotal role for Gujarat Titans’ title triumph in their maiden season.
