IND-W vs EN-W: Harmanpreet Kaur Equals Mithali Raj’s Record As India Post Record-Breaking Total
Harmanpreet Kaur hits 4000 ODI runs, equals Mithali Raj's century record in final ODI vs England.
Harmanpreet Kaur has added another feather to her cap. The Indian women’s captain became just the third Indian cricketer to score 4000 runs in women’s ODIs, joining the elite list that includes Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana.
She reached the milestone during the third and final ODI against England at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.
With this, the 36-year-old also became the 17th cricketer in the world to cross 4000 ODI runs in women’s cricket. However, her journey to the landmark came with a slight blemish.
Harmanpreet became the second slowest to reach 4000 runs, taking 129 innings. Only England’s Heather Knight took longer, needing 140 innings.
Despite that, Harmanpreet made the occasion special with a captain’s knock. She scored her seventh century in the format, guiding India to a strong total in a must-win game.
Her 82-ball hundred included some classic strokes, and she shared a vital 110-run stand with Jemimah Rodrigues, who scored 50. With this ton, Harmanpreet has now equalled Mithali Raj’s tally of seven ODI centuries. Only Smriti Mandhana stands ahead with 11.
India ended their innings on a high, posting a mammoth 318 runs. Richa Ghosh’s fiery cameo, 38 off just 18 balls, gave the finishing touches.
The total also became the highest ever in women’s ODIs at Chester-le-Street. Now, all eyes are on whether Nat Sciver-Brunt’s England can chase down the record total or if India will seal the series 2-1.
