IND vs WI 2025: Roston Chase Reveals the Financial Condition of West Indies Cricket After Heavy Loss vs India
Roston Chase admits West Indies’ financial crisis is hurting cricket development after heavy defeat to India in 1st Test.
The decline of West Indies cricket was laid bare once again after their crushing innings defeat to India in the first Test at Ahmedabad.
Captain Roston Chase openly admitted that the team’s long-standing financial struggles and poor infrastructure are hurting player development and performance.
After being bowled out for 162 and 146, the West Indies fell to a humiliating loss by an innings and 140 runs.
It followed their lowest-ever Test total of 27 against Australia earlier this year, a collapse that had already triggered an emergency meeting involving Clive Lloyd, Brian Lara, and other West Indies legends.
“Yes, there is obviously a struggle in the Caribbean for finances,” Chase said after the defeat. “Whatever help we can get, I hope that we do get it so that we can strengthen the infrastructure. The systems in the Caribbean are a bit poor in terms of training facilities.”
However, Chase refused to use money issues as an excuse. “The onus is still on the players to perform. We have to find a way to score runs and take wickets,” he added.
The skipper also dismissed suggestions of a lack of motivation, insisting that the young side remains committed.
“The guys are eager to play. They want to make a name for themselves and make a living through cricket. But we have to improve our skills and sustain performances for longer periods.”
Despite the crisis, Chase remains hopeful of a turnaround. “If I said no, I wouldn’t be a true West Indian. We’re down right now, but we’ve been up before and can rise again,” he said.
West Indies will look to bounce back in the second Test, starting October 10 in New Delhi.
