Root broke Rahul Dravid’s long-standing record of 210 catches, doing so in style with a sharp, one-handed take at first slip to dismiss Karun Nair.

The ball flew low to Root’s left, and he snatched it just before it kissed the turf. It was a classic slip catch and a fitting way to go past one of India’s greatest.

Root, who already holds the record for most Test centuries by an English player (37), also scored 104 in England’s first innings. That ton pushed him to fifth on the all-time Test century list.
