IND vs BAN: Taskin Ahmed Returns As Bangladesh announce 17-member Test Squad for 1st Test
Bangladesh announced a 17-man squad for two-Test series against India.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on Thursday (December 8) announced a 17-man squad for the two-Test series against India, starting December 14 in Chattogram.
Zakir Hasan has been given his maiden Test call-up. The left-handed batter has been rewarded for his consistency in red-ball cricket. He recently scored 173 runs for Bangladesh A in the first four-day game against India A in Cox’s Bazar last week.
“Zakir has been on our radar for the last five years. He was in the High-Performance unit for four of those years, and this season he was the highest scorer in first-class cricket. He played a good knock against India A last week,” BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin said.
“It saved the game. Selector Abdur Razzak, with the Bangladesh A side, witnessed the game and it seems Zakir is prepared for the highest level,” he added.
Tamim Iqbal continues to be out of action after picking up a groin injury that also ruled him out of the ongoing ODI series. The BCB chief shed provided an update on Tamim’s injury:
“Our physio said he wouldn’t be able to play in the first Test. But we are awaiting the medical report for the second Test. So, we’ve announced the squad for the opening Test.”
Shakib Al Hasan has been named the captain of the team while the likes of Mushfiqur Rahim, Yasir Ali, and Taskin Ahmed, who were ruled out of the ODI series due to back issues, return to the Test squad.
