The Former Australian skipper Bradd Hogg recently pointed out the mistake that Indians bowlers are doing while delivering a ball to Steve Smith. He looked quite surprised at the tactics that Indian bowlers have used against Smith. He said that India has been bowling good length balls to Smith, which is an area that he is strong in and urged them to use the short-ball against the batsman, which is his weakness.
“The big issue for me for India was when Steve Smith came out, they didn’t attempt to bounce him out at any stage. They bowled on a good length or a little fuller. I can’t understand that, because Steve Smith’s weakness is with the short-ball,” Brad Hogg said in a video on his YouTube Channel.
“Steve Smith walks around, he was both legs planted and he is a little chest-on. So he can’t duck and leave and has to play the pull shot. You could have set the entire tour up by having Steve Smith on the back foot,” Hogg added.
Undoubtedly, it has been a tough time for Indian bowlers in Australia. They are not able to take early wickets and are conceding a lot of runs. In the first ODI, the Aussie batsmen scored 374 runs and in the second ODI, they scored 389 runs.
Australia batsman Steve Smith has hit back-to-back hundreds in 62 balls in both the ODIs. No Indian bowler, pacer or spinner has been able to consistently trouble the Australian and take wickets.
Maxwell Also Struggles Against Short-Ball: Bradd Hogg
Hogg further pointed out the same mistake of Indian bowlers in Glenn Maxwell’s case. He said that Indian bowlers are throwing full yorkers to Maxwell, and he is taking full advantage of it by playing big shots. He then suggested Indian bowlers throw short-balls to him.
“And again Glenn Maxwell, just bowling full yorkers to him so that he can play those reverse sweeps. He is a player that you should bowl the short-ball to and they didn’t do it enough,” Hogg said.
India will play the third and final ODI against Australia at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Wednesday. Australia has an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series.
