IND vs AUS: Australia Picked 17-Man Squad For India Tests; Will Pucovski, Cameron Green Called Up

Team India has left for Australia directly after the completion of IPL 2020 on Tuesday, where the series of three formats will be played between hosts and India. Meanwhile, the Australian Cricket Board i.e. Cricket Australia (CA) has announced the host team for this test series. Cricket Australia has named 17 players in their squad for the Test series.

Australia has selected youngsters 22-year-old Will Pucovski and all-rounder Cameron Green for the first time, out of which the former is in stupendous form, notching scores of 255* and 202 in the previous two games of the ongoing Sheffield Shield. While Mitchell Swepson, Michael Neser and Sean Abbott have also been named in the squad.

“What we saw in the opening rounds of the Marsh Sheffield Shield were a number of players performing exceptionally well. Two of those many standout players were, of course, Cameron Green and Will Pucovski.

“Their undeniable form demanded selection and we are very pleased to have these young men in the squad for what will be a tremendous Test Series against an extremely formidable opponent,” Trevor Hohns, the national selector, was quoted as saying on Thursday.

Talking about Cameron Green, he started bowling after returning from a back injury. Earlier, he was also selected in Australia’s white-ball squads for the India T20Is and ODIs.

“Cameron (Green) has already won selection in the white ball squad and continues that in joining the Test squad. He is a wonderful young talent who has great potential to become an all-rounder of substance over time,” he added.

Tim Paine is picked as a captain of the team, while Pat Cummins has been selected as the vice-captain of the team.

The Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced its team a long time ago. However, there was a slight update later, as Virat Kohli will return home after the first Test, while Rohit Sharma has been selected in the squad for the entire Test series. Ajinkya Rahane will captain the lead the remaining three Tests.

First Test – will be in Adelaide from 17 to 21 December, which is a day-night test

Second Test – 26 to 30 December, in Melbourne

Third Test – 7 to 11 January, in Sydney

Fourth Test – 15 to 19 January, in Brisbane
