AB de Villiers Clears Correct Rule for ‘Second Super Over’ Following Rohit Sharma’s Controversial Turn Against Afghanistan
AB de Villiers discussed Rohit Sharma's reappearance to bat in the second super
AB de Villiers, the former South African batter, discussed the thrilling super over between India and Afghanistan at Bengaluru where India emerged victorious, pointing out an error made by the broadcasters.
Controversy arose when Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, retired out in the first super over but later reappeared to bat in the second super over against Afghanistan. Fans and cricket pundits seemed confused about whether it is allowed.
Addressing the incident, AB de Villiers, the legendary South African batter, said that a player shouldn’t bat again if they get out in the first super over, suggesting a possible error by the broadcasters.
“Double Super Over unbelievable (smiles). You can’t bat again if you are declared out in the first super over. I think maybe they will claim that he was retired hurt due to an injury and maybe it was a scoring mistake to show him out,” De Villiers said on his YouTube channel.
Here it is worth mentioning that Rohit Sharma, being retired out and not dismissed by Afghanistan bowlers in the first super over, was the reason for his subsequent appearance in the second super over.
