Aakash Chopra Proposes Opening Pair for India in T20 World Cup 2024
Aakash Chopra has suggested Indian team to open with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra suggests India should opt for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as India openers in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, following a proven template.
India clinches a 1-0 lead in the three-match series by beating Afghanistan by 6 wickets in Mohali. Kohli was not available for the opening game, however, he has now rejoined the squad for the remaining series.
The former Indian opener further pointed out Virat Kohli’s free-spirited play in powerplay overs and underscored his achievement as the top run-scorer in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Here’s what Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel:
“If you see the entire ODI World Cup, Virat Kohli scored a lot of runs while following a certain template. He doesn’t hit fours and sixes from the start in T20 cricket. If he has to score runs at a strike rate of 150, he can only do it in the powerplay.”
Aakash Chopra further extended his advice, stating that if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are envisioned as India’s opening duo for the T20 World Cup 2024, they should begin pairing up in the ongoing series.
“In New York or the West Indies, the pitches will be slow and you will have the best opportunity to score runs in the first six overs. So you want Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to be together from.the start. If you want to open with them in the World Cup, start it now.”
