14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Smashes World Record, Destroys Unmukt Chand’s Mark in Just 10 Innings
At 14, Vaibhav Suryavanshi breaks Unmukt Chand’s world record for most sixes in Youth ODIs, reaching 39 in just 10 innings.
At just 14 years of age, India’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi has smashed his way into the record books. The young left-hander broke the world record for most sixes in Youth ODIs, going past Unmukt Chand’s tally of 38 in less than half the innings.
Playing in the second Youth ODI against Australia U19 at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane, Suryavanshi scored a steady yet explosive 70 off 68 balls.
His innings included five fours and six sixes, the fifth of which took him to 39 career sixes in Youth ODIs, overtaking Chand’s long-standing record. Unmukt had taken 21 innings to reach 38 sixes, while Suryavanshi got there in just 10.
The innings was unusual for Suryavanshi at first. Known for his attacking style, he was 20 off 38 balls after the first 10 overs.
Once the field restrictions ended, he cut loose, smashing Australian bowlers Hayden Schiller, John James and Kasey Barton with trademark power-hitting. His record-breaking six came against Barton, Australia U19’s fastest bowler.
Suryavanshi’s knock also brought up his maiden fifty on Australian soil in Youth ODIs. He eventually fell to opposition skipper Yash Deshmukh while going for another big shot.
Apart from him, Deshmukh himself contributed with the bat, scoring 70 off 74 balls. Later, Abhigyan Kundu continued his fine form with a quickfire 71 from 64 balls, helping India post 300 in 49.4 overs.
