IPL 2024 – Match 3: KKR vs SRH Pitch Report of Eden Gardens, Kolkata with Stats and Records

Pat Cummins will make his debut as Sunrisers Hyderabad captain.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) kick off their IPL 2024 campaign in Kolkata on Saturday, March 23. The two-time champions finished seventh last year while SRH finished last. The two teams are looking to have a completely different season and they look to win yet another IPL title. The venue hosts only one home game for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the first leg of IPL 2024

Before we proceed, let’s take a look at the pitch report for the Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium:

Eden Gardens Pitch Report for KKR vs SRH

Eden Gardens, the oldest and second largest cricket stadium in India, has served as the home venue to Bengal state teams, the Indian cricket team and since 2008, when Indian Premier League (IPL) started as a home to the Kolkata-based franchise Kolkata Knight Riders.

Over the years, the pitch at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata was a high-scoring wicket. 200-plus totals were posted with consistent success and nearly chased down as well. However, with the arrival of Gautam Gambhir, KKR is expected to go back to the spin-friendly tracks that were laid out under Gambhir’s captaincy. He wants to make use of his spin bowling group.

The Eden Gardens has always been a fast outfield. Scores around 150-170 might be winning totals this season at the venue. There is no rain threat which means we should have a full game of 40 overs.

The deck at the Eden Gardens Stadium usually aids the batters. As the boundary size is not too big, batters have an edge to get the big runs. Pacers tend to obtain some bounce, however, spinners play an important role towards the latter phase of the match.

The pitch is known to be on the slow side, assisting spinners and slower bowlers, the pitches at the Kolkata venue saw a slight transformation last season. But with the home side stacked with spin-bowling options, we may see the return of these sluggish wickets.
