Pakistan cricketer Abid Ali believes it’s important to criticise Babar Azam as it will help him get his mojo back. Since the Asia Cup 2022, Babar’s numbers have dropped, and his performance in the T20 World Cup 2022 last year was pretty disappointing as well, with only 124 runs from seven matches.
With the Asia Cup 2023 and ICC World Cup 2023 just around the corner, Ali stated that criticism will help the Pakistan captain to do better. He also labelled Babar Azam as a world-class player and shared how he’s a total fan of his playing style. Here’s what Abid Ali told Cricket Pakistan:
“It’s good, Babar should be criticized. When he is criticized, Allah blesses him in a way that he scores without any stopping. Babar has played with me; he’s also my junior – now he is a world-class player. Allah has given Pakistan such a star that there are no words to describe it. His [Babar] batting skills – it’s always fun to watch him play.”
Babar Azam has been on fire in a couple of Pakistan’s recent series. In ODIs, he has smashed a hundred and six half-centuries in just 11 games. Furthermore, in the recent three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, he smacked two fifties in a row, playing a big part in Pakistan’s clean sweep.
Both Babar Azam and his fans will be keeping their hopes high for the Pakistan captain’s hot streak to keep on rolling during the Asia Cup 2023, which is set to be played from August 30. The continental tournament is being co-hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
