Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, on Friday once again proved why he is considered as a very dangerous batsman in white-ball cricket as he played a brilliant inning of quick 45 off 19 balls in the 1st ODI of the 3-Match series in Sydney. Maxwell’s brilliant performance, that too in the 1st ODI against India left many Kings XI Punjab fans baffled considering his poor form in the just-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL 2020).
Another heartbreak moment for KXIP’s fans was seeing another Kings XI Punjab all-rounder Jimmy Neesham hitting big shots against West Indies in the first T20 of 3-Match series. He too scored fast 48 runs off just 28 balls. After witnessing these two in such a rich form, memes and trolls started getting viral on social media, one such fan even tagged Neesham in one posts showing how disappointed KXIP skipper Rahul would be seeing the two in such brilliant forms.
When Neesham shared the meme with Maxwell, the latter revealed that he even apologised to Rahul – who was the wicket-keeper for India in the first ODI – while he was batting.
Both Maxwell and Neesham were in a poor form while playing under Mohali based franchise in just-concluded Indian Premier League. While Maxwell couldn’t hit a single six in the tournament, Neesham remained in and out of the team due to his ‘not-so-good performance’.
Out of 14 games, Kings XI Punjab played, Maxwell was there in 11 games and could score only 108 runs at an average of 15.42 and a strike-rate of 101.88. Neesham, on the other hand, accumulated just 19 runs in 3 innings. Even in terms of wickets, Neesham and Maxwell couldn’t do much, taking just 2 and 3 wickets respectively.
As long as the first ODI is concerned, the host Australia have already taken a 1-0 lead in the opening ODI of the three-match series against India, thanks to Aaron Finch (114) and Steve Smith (105).
