BCCI Extends IPL 2027 Retention Deadline by Two Days
BCCI extends the IPL 2027 retention deadline to November 17, ahead of the December 16 mini-auction in Goa.
The BCCI has extended the deadline for IPL franchises to submit their retention and released player lists for the 2027 season by two days. Teams now have until November 17, 2026, instead of the earlier deadline of November 15.
The IPL 2027 mini-auction is scheduled to take place on December 16 in Goa. The one-day auction will give franchises a chance to fill gaps in their squads ahead of the new season.
The player registration window will close on November 23. Teams can make additional player requests until November 27, while the final list of registered players and auction sets will be sent to franchises on December 3.
Major Trades Ahead of the Auction
Several trades have already taken place ahead of the mini-auction. Delhi Capitals have brought back their former captain Rishabh Pant from Lucknow Super Giants, with left-arm wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav moving to LSG in the deal. Pant is also set to take a significant pay cut.
Delhi Capitals have also traded fast bowler T Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad in exchange for legspinner Zeeshan Ansari. These moves could play an important role in shaping the teams’ plans for the upcoming season.
The December auction will be the final mini-auction of the current IPL media rights cycle. A mega auction is expected before the 2028 season, marking the start of the next cycle. However, the tender for the next media rights deal has not yet been released.
The previous media rights cycle, which began in 2022, was sold for ₹48,390.5 crore, worth around US$6.2 billion at the time.
The official dates for IPL 2027 are yet to be confirmed. The tournament was initially pencilled in for March 14 to May 30, but BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia indicated in September that the season could begin towards the end of March.
With the retention deadline approaching, franchises will now have to make their final decisions on which players to keep and which ones to release before the auction.
