India Set New T20 World Cup Winning Streak Record After Beating USA

India beat USA by 29 runs to record their ninth straight T20 World Cup win, the most consecutive victories in tournament history.

India continued their strong run in T20 World Cups with a hard-fought 29-run win over the United States of America at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 7 February. The victory not only gave India a winning start to the 2026 edition but also helped them create a new tournament record.

With this result, India now have nine consecutive wins in T20 World Cups, the most by any team. They went past South Africa, who had won eight matches in a row in 2024. Australia are also on eight wins between 2022 and 2024.

India’s record run now reads nine straight wins from 2024 to 2026. Their previous best was seven consecutive wins between 2012 and 2014, showing how strong this current side has been on the world stage.

The match itself was far from easy. India were put in to bat and suffered a collapse early on. They lost four wickets for just 46 runs in the powerplay, putting the team under heavy pressure. Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a golden duck, and the USA bowlers kept striking.

Things worsened in the sixth over when Shadley van Schalkwyk tore through the middle order. He picked up three wickets in the over, including Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube on consecutive balls. India were soon struggling at 77/6.

From there, captain Suryakumar Yadav took full control of the innings. He played with patience and intent, reaching his fifty in 36 balls and keeping India afloat as wickets fell at the other end.

The final over changed the game. With India at 140/9, Suryakumar smashed two sixes and two fours off Saurabh Netravalkar, collecting 21 runs and lifting India to a competitive 161/9. He finished unbeaten on 84 off 49 balls.

The USA chase began poorly as well. They were reduced to 31/3 in the powerplay after early strikes from Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh. USA captain Monank Patel was dismissed for a duck.

A 58-run stand between Milind Kumar and Sanjay Krishnamurthi gave the visitors some hope. That partnership ended when Varun Chakaravarthy struck, swinging the game back India’s way.

Axar Patel then finished the chase with two wickets in two balls, before Siraj sealed the win on the final delivery. Suryakumar was named Player of the Match, his 17th in T20Is, another Indian record.
