India Women On Brink of World Cup Elimination After Narrow Four-Wicket Loss Against England
England beat India by four runs in a thrilling Women’s World Cup 2025 match in Indore, sealing a semi-final spot as India’s hopes took a major hit.
England snatched a stunning four-run win over India Women in a thrilling Women’s World Cup clash at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday.
What looked like India’s game till the final few overs turned into heartbreak as England held their nerve to secure a memorable victory and a spot in the semi-finals.
After choosing to bat first, England got off to a solid start through Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones, who added 73 runs for the first wicket.
Deepti Sharma broke the stand by removing Beaumont for 42, but Jones continued and scored a composed 56.
From there, Heather Knight took charge, playing one of the best innings of the tournament, a classy 109 off 91 balls, packed with 15 boundaries and a six.
Nat Sciver-Brunt supported Knight with a handy 38, and England’s lower order chipped in just enough to push the total to 288 for eight in 50 overs.
Deepti was India’s standout bowler again, finishing with 4 for 51, while Sree Charani picked up two wickets.
India’s chase began on a shaky note with early wickets, but Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur brought the crowd alive with a brilliant 125-run stand.
Harmanpreet scored 70, while Mandhana fell agonisingly short of a hundred on 88. Deepti Sharma’s fighting fifty kept India in the hunt, but her dismissal in the 47th over proved to be the turning point.
With 27 needed off the last three overs, Amanjot Kaur and Sneh Rana tried hard but couldn’t take India over the line. India finished on 284 for six, just four runs short of England’s total.
For England, Nat Sciver-Brunt took two wickets, and every bowler chipped in when it mattered most. The win sealed England’s place in the semi-finals, while India now face a must-win situation to keep their campaign alive.
