‘Kohli Might Not Like Me…’ – Rahul Dravid Takes A Dig At Virat Kohli’s Height
Rahul Dravid jokingly said “Virat Kohli might not like me” while calling him ‘short-ish’ during a podcast.
Rahul Dravid isn’t someone who minced words during his playing days, nor does he now. The former India captain, regarded as one of the most technically sound batters to ever grace the game, recently shared his perspective on batting styles and in the process, dropped a cheeky remark about Virat Kohli that he instantly caught himself on.
Speaking on the Haal Chaal Aur Sawaal podcast with Ashish Kaushik, Dravid explained how shorter batters often appear more balanced at the crease due to their lower centre of gravity.
He cited examples of Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting and even Sir Don Bradman. While drawing that comparison, Dravid brought up Kohli, before quickly realising his choice of words could spark some reactions.
“Gavaskar was beautifully balanced. Tendulkar too. Shorter people have the advantage of looking more balanced because the centre of gravity is lower. Look at Gavaskar, Tendulkar, Lara, Ponting, Bradman. Kohli is short-ish. Virat Kohli might not like me calling him short-ish though,” Dravid laughed.
Dravid further explained that while shorter batters may look more elegant, taller players often hold the advantage in terms of power-hitting.
“Today, as the game is changing and becoming a lot about power and hitting sixes, the reach of the taller guys is becoming an advantage. Physics will tell you. Kevin Pietersen, Kieron Pollard… look at the guys batting these days, especially in T20s,” he said.
Known for his copybook technique and unshakable temperament, Dravid himself was the exception to that theory, tall, but rarely relying on raw hitting power. Instead, he built his career on patience, timing and precision, qualities that made him “The Wall” of Indian cricket.
