Chris Woakes Set to Miss Ashes After Shoulder Injury at The Oval: Report
Chris Woakes likely to miss Ashes due to shoulder injury from The Oval Test; Jofra Archer and young pacers in focus
England all-rounder Chris Woakes is likely to miss the upcoming Ashes series due to a serious shoulder injury suffered during the fifth Test against India at The Oval.
Woakes slipped near the boundary on Day 1 while trying to stop a four. The outfield was wet, and the fall resulted in a dislocated left shoulder. Scans later showed significant damage, and surgery now seems likely.
According to Telegraph, the injury could keep Woakes out of action for several months.
England may not feel his absence too deeply in Australia, where he has traditionally struggled. In past Ashes tours down under, Woakes has found it tough to make an impact with both bat and ball.
On the brighter side, England’s pace attack is shaping up well for the Ashes. Jofra Archer is expected to return after a long injury layoff. Gus Atkinson has impressed recently, while Mark Wood adds raw pace and experience.
England also have depth with young fast bowlers like Brydon Carse and Josh Tongue pushing for spots.
For now, the team remains focused on wrapping up the India series before finalising plans for the Ashes later this year.
