IND vs ENG: Ishan Kishan to Travel to England to Replace Injured Rishabh Pant in India Squad
Ishan Kishan to replace injured Rishabh Pant for final England Test as India battles injury crisis.
The BCCI has confirmed that Ishan Kishan will join Team India in England as a replacement for the injured Rishabh Pant. This decision comes after Pant was ruled out of the remainder of the Test series due to a toe fracture he suffered on Day 1 of the fourth Test at Manchester.
Pant was forced to retire hurt on 37 after being hit on the right foot while trying a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes. Scans later revealed a fracture, and the medical team has advised him six weeks of rest.
With the final Test of the series set to begin on July 31 at The Oval, the management had no choice but to find a backup wicketkeeper.
Ishan Kishan, who hasn’t featured in a Test since December 2023, is expected to fly to London in the next few days.
The left-hander was previously on a break from international cricket but had recently made himself available for selection again.
The Indian team is already struggling with multiple injuries. All-rounder Nitesh Kumar Reddy is out with a knee injury, while Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh are also unavailable due to fitness issues.
Kishan’s arrival will help plug a key gap in the squad ahead of a must-win Test.
India are currently trailing 2-1 in the five-match series. The team will be banking on KL Rahul, Jadeja, and Jaiswal to step up in the absence of Pant, who had shown good form with the bat before the injury.
