“Not Umpire’s Fault!” Anil Chaudhary Slams Dewald Brevis and Ravindra Jadeja Over DRS Drama
Anil Chaudhary said it was Dewald Brevis and Ravindra Jadeja’s mistake, not the umpire’s, during the DRS drama.

A big controversy erupted during the IPL 2025 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) when Dewald Brevis missed a clear chance to save his wicket.
In the 17th over of CSK’s chase, Brevis was given out LBW by the on-field umpire after missing a full toss from Lungi Ngidi. While replays later showed the ball was missing the stumps, Brevis and his partner Ravindra Jadeja failed to take a review on time, leading to his dismissal for a duck.
Former international umpire Anil Chaudhary reacted to the incident, saying that while the DRS timer was not shown on the big screen, it was Brevis and Jadeja’s responsibility to be alert.
Instead of checking with the umpire or signaling for the review, both players tried to run a single, not realizing the ball was declared dead after the out signal. By the time they turned to discuss the review, the 15-second window had already expired, which also led to a heated argument on the field.
Anil Chaudhary further explained that it’s standard protocol for umpires to alert batters when only five seconds are left. He said that even though the timer didn’t appear on the big screen, the blame couldn’t be put on the umpires.
He called it unfortunate and added that the big screen operations are handled by a different team, not the match officials. “It was just bad luck for the players,” Chaudhary concluded, while also stressing that the final decision always stays with the on-field umpire.
