The first half of the 13th season of the Indian Premier League has been completed. In the tournament being played in the UAE, all eight teams have played seven matches of their respective quota. Now everyone has to play seven more matches, after which the way to the playoffs will be decided. However, we may see some changes in the team’s squad of some teams at this stage of the tournament.

According to the new rules of IPL, after the completion of seven matches, franchisees can be permitted to transfer players to other teams (mid-season transfer) for the season by mutual consent.

According to the rule of mid-season transfer, transfer of a player to another team will happen only if the said player has played two or fewer matches in the first seven matches played so far. Such capped (Indian or foreign) and uncapped players can take part in this mid-season transfer.

Significantly, this rule was introduced only last year but no team used it. At that time the rule was only for uncapped players but this season, the board has proposed this for capped players along with some new rules.

According to the rules, even after the transfer, the player’s team will be the same as the old one and in the next season, it will be reunited with it. Not only this, the transfer players do not play against their main team.
