IND vs ENG: Cheteshwar Pujara Exposes Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Weakness, Tells Bowlers How to Get Him Out

Cheteshwar Pujara reveals how to dismiss in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal early, warns bowlers to be patient around off-stump.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in brilliant form in the ongoing Test series, but Cheteshwar Pujara believes there is still a way to get him out early.

The veteran India batter has shared some honest advice for bowlers on how to trouble the young opener at the start of his innings.

Jaiswal scored a fine 87 off 107 balls in the first innings at Edgbaston. His knock, filled with 13 boundaries, helped set the tone for India, even as Shubman Gill went on to score an unbeaten double century.

But it was Chris Woakes who eventually got Jaiswal out. Looking at that dismissal, Pujara pointed out that the left-hander can be vulnerable if bowlers stick to a good length just outside the off-stump.

“In the beginning, it seemed like he was trying too hard to force shots,” said Pujara. “But once he settles, his strokeplay is top quality. He doesn’t miss out on scoring opportunities.”

According to Pujara, the key is to challenge Jaiswal in the first 30 minutes of his innings.

“You need to bowl in the channel around off-stump, with good length. Keep doing that patiently. If you go full, he drives easily. Short and wide, he cuts. Bouncers, he pulls with confidence. The margin for error is very small.”

Though his batting has been solid, his fielding came under the scanner in the last match. Some lapses in the field were seen as costly in India’s narrow five-wicket loss.

Still, at just 23, Jaiswal continues to grow as a Test player. His fearless approach and ability to dominate bowlers have made him one of the standout performers in the series so far.
